Equality & Inclusion Award 2022
Rebecca Braney
We are delighted to announce that Rebecca has won the BGNI Equality and Inclusion Award for 2022! This is the second consecutive year that the award has come to LX, which shows the strength of our inclusive program!
Rebecca leads our Special Olympics program, demonstrating passion, enthusiasm and dedication to each and every gymnast. Our SO program continues to go from strength to strength, and is now the largest dedicated disabilities gymnastics program in Northern Ireland. Rebecca also coaches in our School’s program, hosting St. Gerard’s Special School twice a week.
As our Special Olympics athletes prepare for Advancement Events later in the year, Rebecca created individual training plans for all our gymnasts. This will ensure that everyone is fully prepared for competition.
Rebecca is also passionate about self development. During lockdown, she undertook a number of courses, including Health Promotion Facilitator training, Rebound therapy, Autism Awareness…the list goes on and on. Not only have these courses helped Rebecca further her knowledge, they have also really benefitted all of our gymnasts!
It takes a special kind of person to be able to do what Rebecca does. Along with the wider SO coaching team, Rebecca has created an inclusive, understanding, respectful and accepting environment in which our gymnasts can reach their full potential.
We are so proud of you Rebecca! You are an amazing role model and friend! Our gymnasts are extremely lucky to have you!
